Description
“Come and visit a country with connected mentalities, and discover its flexible environment.
Using your universal purchasing power, invest in the disruptive products of our chief happiness officers. "
Welcome to Toxistan, an artificial country whose well-known slogan, “connecting people” reminds us that we are all interconnected and bathed in artificial happiness. You are invited to enter a universe borrowing from the kitsch and retro futuristic aesthetic of the propaganda of North Korea and other authoritarian societies frozen in another time.
Through a series of painted wooden signs co-produced, the contrast between pastel and suave tones (respecting the chromatic codes of the time) and the association of "Bullshit words" leads us to position ourselves in front of this form of communication both outdated and contemporary.
In Toxistan, one wonders about the real goals of this new generation propaganda.
What do they really want to sell us? New technologies ?
A sanitized lifestyle or, on the contrary, stupefying?
5G for everyone?
2SHY (b. 1976)
Olivier "2SHY" is a French artist living and working in Valencia
Completely self-taught, 2SHY has pushed his boundaries of imagination to create a unique signature style heavily inspired via his adventures worldwide and the friendships formed during the travels. For over a decade, 2SHY has presented a vibrant, colorful and spontaneous universe. He has developed an iconic and pioneering lettering style combining the worlds of graffiti, popular culture and memories of his childhood.
2SHY’s world presents a reinvention of his own style via the use of lines and pictorial techniques. He has introduced the legacy of his skills in writing culture and tools of the digital era, exploring his way through visual worlds made up of illustration, graphic design and handmade typography.
2SHY has constantly moved from one world to another, diversifying his mediums via solo work and collaborations.
From the hardcore era of painting trains in the 90s to exhibiting in contemporary art galleries, 2SHY’s creative evolution and present day style is now almost institutionalised. Through various commands, he has directed the production of large scale paintings, created visual identities for artists, brands and events. 2SHY continues through his projects to make a mark and imprint the spirit of a generation that is uninhibited by styles and dedicated to vivid expressions.
Paul Loubet (b. 1987)
Paul Loubet is a French artist living and working in Valencia.
His artistic practice, which he develops on all scales, encompasses painting, sculpture, publishing, installation and sound. Recently, he works mainly from digital archives, old digital maps, diagrams, ui, game boards, or old electronic objects, reinterpreting the archaic computer and gamer aesthetics with artisanal and technological techniques that he uses in a self-taught way (CNC, matrix printing etc.) to create distopic and paranoid micro-worlds and primitive low-tech inspired objects.
He constantly applies a logic of recycling materials and economizing on form, resampling his own work to gradually degrading the resolution of his pieces.
In an increasingly high-definition world, reincorporating the minimal aesthetics of the already obsolete future from his childhood enables him to touch on subjects as the exploration of virtual worlds, the digitalization of violence or the gamification of society.
He likes to call is work LoFi-Sci.
